Mitsubishi I-MiEV

A 100% electric car

The i-MiEV was given the “Most Advanced Technology” award at the “2009 - 2010 Car of the Year Japan” final judging. Innovation and efficiency are assured by its brake energy regeneration system which captures kinetic energy during deceleration and converts it into electric energy to recharge the battery as you drive.

Consisting of 88 cells, the i-MiEV’s high-capacity lithium-ion battery pack offers an impressive 160km cruising range per charge. Perfect for city cruising! It’s smooth and quiet, even while accelerating and produces no vibrations at all when stopped.

The i-MiEV is nimble and takes the trouble out of city parking where narrow spaces are a fact of life.

Specifications

The tiny i is powered by an electric motor mounted under the trunk that sends 66 horsepower and 145 lb-ft. of instant torque to the rear wheels. Power is provided by a 16-kWh lithium-ion battery located under the chassis.

In the ideal driving conditions the i-MiEV can go 130 kilometres  on a single charge. Although Mitsubishi claims that the car can achieve a top speed of 81 mph, don't expect it, nor the traditional zero-to- 100kms sprint, to come quickly.

The i-MiEV can be charged three ways: A standard 120V household outlet takes 22 hours, an optional 240V home charger trims that to 7 hours, while a CHAdeMO level three system like you'll find at some public charging stations will top off 80 percent of the battery in half an hour. The CHAdeMO port comes as an optional.
