The concept of this project has accumulated a substantial amount of interest from the Maltese public as witnessed from the feedback the coordinators received after a call for volunteers was issued. By the deadline, over 200 applications had reached the Ministry from volunteers who had expressed their interest to participate in demonstration phase of this pilot project.
The volunteers participating in the pilot project will also test the efficiency of the infrastructure of the charging points, in order to compare their efficiency with photovoltaic methods of charging (photovoltaic panels installed in buildings) and with electrical supply connected to the grid. It will also evaluate the public acceptance of these 100 smart charging points that will be introduced, for the first time in Malta and Gozo.
This will be further complemented by a detailed environmental and economic efficiency study on these ways of recharging electric vehicles
